IMAGE TECH Won ADA Cup Gold Award in Chemical Industry

If you want your product packaging to stand out, offer better protection against counterfeiting, and rely less on traditional printing inks, micro-nano optical technology is worth exploring.

At the 10th ADA Cup Label Awards in 2026, our company won Gold in the Chemical Industry category for our optical packaging design applied to Mobil lubricant container caps.

Held in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area, the competition was organized by Beijing Keyin Media Culture Co., Ltd. Formerly known as the Asian Label Awards, the ADA Cup is an established competition in China’s label printing and anti-counterfeiting industry.

This award recognizes IMAGE TECH’s work in applying micro-nano optical technology to packaging.

An Optical Design for Industrial Lubricant Packaging

If you’re looking for a packaging solution for industrial lubricants or chemical products, you’re probably thinking about more than just product information and a brand logo. You may also want to improve the overall appearance of your packaging, consider the production process, and make your brand harder to copy.

The award-winning Mobil lubricant container caps are one example of how micro-nano optical technology can be used in industrial packaging.

In this project, optical micro-nano patterns are transferred onto metal packaging through a film transfer and lamination process. The result is a container cap with rich colors and dynamic visual effects.

Unlike traditional printing, which mainly uses inks to create colors and images, micro-nano optical patterns work by interacting with light through precisely designed micro-nano structures.

For your brand, this offers another way to make packaging more distinctive while adding possibilities for brand protection.

What Can Micro-Nano Optical Technology Do for Your Packaging?

1. Reduce Reliance on Traditional Printing Inks

Traditional packaging usually relies on printing inks to create colors, text, and images. Micro-nano optical technology takes a different approach. It uses micro-nano structures to produce specific optical effects without relying on traditional printing inks to create those effects.

This structure-based replication process can reduce the use of relevant inks and solvents in the creation of optical effects, giving you another option to consider when exploring more environmentally conscious packaging processes.

2. Give You More Options for Materials and Production

If material safety and environmental performance matter to your packaging project, you’ll need to consider the full structure, including the film substrate, inks, adhesives, and overall production process.

Micro-nano optical technology doesn’t rely on traditional printing inks to create its distinctive optical effects. This can help reduce some concerns associated with ink residues. However, if your application has specific material safety requirements, the complete product structure, production process, and relevant test results still need to be evaluated.

3. Add Another Layer of Brand Protection

Packaging needs to catch people’s attention, but it also needs to help protect your brand against counterfeiting, imitation, and unauthorized use of your brand identity.

Micro-nano optical effects come from precisely designed micro-nano structures. Producing them involves specialized optical masters and precision manufacturing processes, making them more technically demanding than ordinary printed graphics.

Depending on your brand protection needs, you can incorporate these optical patterns into your packaging design to add another layer of protection and help make your products easier to identify.

How Can Micro-Nano Optics Be Used on Different Packaging Materials?

The key to micro-nano optical images lies in the precise design and replication of microscopic structures, often at the micrometer scale or smaller.

When light interacts with these structures, it can produce optical effects such as diffraction, reflection, refraction, and scattering. Under specific structural conditions, more complex optical effects can also occur.

Together, these effects create visual results that differ from colors produced by traditional printing inks, allowing patterns to change in appearance under different lighting conditions or viewing angles.

By designing and controlling these microscopic structures, you can explore different ways to incorporate optical effects into your packaging.

The possibilities aren’t limited to one material. Depending on your product and production requirements, optical patterns can be applied to paper-based packaging, plastic packaging, and metal packaging, such as the metal container caps used in the Mobil project.

Through a transfer and lamination process, optical patterns can become part of the finished packaging rather than simply being printed on its surface. This can enhance the overall appearance of your packaging while providing additional options for product identification and physical anti-counterfeiting protection.
