How to do Anti-counterfeiting on the Entire ID Card Surface?

In daily life, we often come into contact with various cards, including cards in public and enterprise applications, such as school ID cards, employee cards, membership cards, traffic cards, etc., and cards issued by government agencies, such as ID cards, driving License, and electoral card. Regardless of the type of card, its primary purpose is personal identification.

Various PVC id cards with personalized information printing

In recent years, counterfeiting technology is developing in ways that no one ever imagined. Some criminals entered the country illegally through fake ID cards and engaged in illegal activities.

For security reasons, more and more enterprises and government agencies want cards with anti-tampering and anti-counterfeiting functions to avoid threats to national and public security caused by fake identity documents.

At present, id card security solutions provided by our company are mainly to combine the optical security information layer with the card in the form of a protective film, to combat card forgery issues.

Here, I would like to introduce the anti-counterfeiting measures of the whole card, one is the id card transfer film, and the other is the hologram patch film.

ID Card Transfer Film

The optical security information layer is embossed onto the PET base film, the security pattern is transferred to the card by a special laminator, and then the PET base film is peeled off.

After transfer, the optical image has high transparency, which does not affect the display of personalized printed information on the card body at all.

Moreover, the optical anti-counterfeiting layer is completely attached to the entire surface of the card, which has a better appearance. The security layer cannot be completely peeled off, protecting the printed information inside the card. It is widely used in the security identification of personal identity documents, travel documents, airport documents, and other special occasions.

The ID card transfer film developed by our company is supplied in a roll form, each roll can hold approximately 1200 images and fits the EVOLIS laminator. Install the prepared transfer film on the equipment and set the parameter, then input the blank card or pre-printed card into the input hopper. After about 20 seconds, the Id card with holograms is completed.

Because the film is embedded with various visual anti-counterfeiting elements that are difficult to imitate and hidden anti-counterfeiting designs that need to be observed with tools, it helps to prevent tampering and counterfeiting.

Hologram Patch Film

The card-type patch film has two layers, one is the base film, and the other is a PET film with an optical security image, the thickness is about 16um. The PVC card patch film is pre-die cut and lined on a release film, use the special laminator to position heating the film on the printed PVC card surface.

After lamination, it’s hard to peel film off, card surface with high scratch resistance to prevent card printing information from tampering and make your id cards more durable.

These two anti-counterfeiting methods both can protect the card’s personalization information. The patch film has a thin film laminated to the surface of the card, which is more scratch-resistant and durable than card-type transfer film. But it cannot cover the card from edge to edge, and it is not as good as the transfer film in terms of aesthetics.

Ultimately it depends on your actual needs and applications. If you are not sure which solution is suitable for you, you can contact our sales representatives, they can provide you with very professional solutions.
