Recently, we received many questions from customers about holograms on polycarbonate overlays for ID document protection.
Many of these questions are quite typical. Some are asked a lot. So today, we want to talk about the hologram for polycarbonate ID cards. The things that everyone is most concerned about.
What is Hologram Stamping for PC ID Documents?
It is a material that helps prevent fake ID documents. We use it to protect PC-based identity documents. We call it stamping foil on polycarbonate PC overlays for ID Cards and document protection.
The optical stamping foil for PC material we offer is in roll form, with a base material of 21 micron PET. The roll has register marks on it to help with positioning during the hot stamping process.

We imprint optical images on the rolls that are designed just for the customer. These optical images are not just printed; they are made up of structures that work with light diffraction.
We can combine what the customer wants with their logo and other elements to create a design. Then we use our advanced dot matrix system to make the design change colors when you look at it from different angles.
How Do You Use the Stamping Foil?
To use the stamping foil, you need a hot stamping machine. There are kinds of machines you can use, depending on what you need.
Here is how it works: a big sheet of PC overlay goes into the machine, the machine keeps it in the fixed area, the hot stamping head gets hot and presses down, and the roll of foil gets unwound and rewound at the same time.
Then the special pattern gets stamped onto the sheet of PC overlay. Finally, use a large laminating machine to laminate the PC overlay to the pre-printed card.
What are the Common Optical Technologies to Prevent ID Documents?
Now people use some optical technologies like DOVID holograms, such as 2D and 3D images, diffraction lens, and dynamic change effects to prevent fake ID documents.
Some projects need more security, like micro text that you need a special tool to read, or a covered laser readable and can only be seen with a laser pen. These are used for inspections or to make sure something is real.
What Do Customers Usually Ask About DOVID Hot Stamping for PC ID Documents?
1. Why does the optical pattern look less bright after lamination?
The reason is that before lamination, you can see the pattern directly, but after lamination, it is under the PC material, so it looks different. We can make the pattern brighter by changing the design.
Of course, it is also related to the surface treatment of the PC overlay, glossy, matte, or semi-glossy.
2. Can you put the optical pattern all over the PC card?
We are working on it. It is possible. We are still testing it.
3. What about samples, price, and minimum order quantity?
- These are the things that everyone wants to know.
- It takes 7-10 days to make a master mould.
- It takes 20 days to deliver the order after the design is confirmed.
- The minimum order quantity is 200K pieces.
- The price depends on the design, the technology requirements, and the kind of card.
4. How small can the Micro Text be?
We can make Micro Text height 80-100 microns and Nano Text 20-30 microns. This is very small and hard to make.
5. How bright can the neon color effect be?

Many customers want to know about the neon color effect. We show them samples and videos so they can see how it looks.
6. What temperature do you need for stamping?
The temperature is about 140°C. It can be different depending on the machine and the material.
Why do customers choose our DOVID Hot Stamping for PC ID documents?
Some customers used to buy from other companies, but they like us, because we deliver faster (master production is about 7 days) and are more flexible.
Some customers had problems with suppliers, such as patterns not being stamped properly or material flaking off. We are always trying to make our product better and more stable.
Our DOVID Hot Stamping for ID documents works with different kinds of PC materials and hot stamping machines.
We have different ways to prevent fake ID documents, including color shift, which is used in many national ID documents.
