For over 23 years, Suzhou Image has been a trusted provider of vehicle security solutions across the globe, delivering tens of millions of RFID windshield tags. With extensive experience in this field, we’ve compiled answers to frequently asked questions to help you with your projects.
What vehicle windshield tag projects have you completed?
Currently, our optical anti-counterfeiting products have served over 200 clients in 80 regions, including Asia, EMEA, and Latin America. We’ve worked on numerous vehicle-related projects, delivering reliable, high-performance RFID windshield tags worldwide.
How do windshield tags differ from standard optical labels?
RFID windshield tags are special optical labels designed for vehicle glass surfaces. They use transparent adhesives that are optimized for glass, ensuring secure adhesion while maintaining the clarity of the tag’s design.
Are RFID labels and RFID tags the same thing?
While there are technical differences, “RFID labels” and “RFID tags” are often used interchangeably. Both can be customized in shape and size and contain antennas and chips to carry information.
What are the functions of RFID tags on vehicle windscreen?
RFID windscreen tags enable secure vehicle identification using contactless technology. These tags are widely used in vehicle registration, access control, parking systems, electronic toll collection (ETC), and vehicle tracking, enhancing both security and convenience.
Where should RFID tags be placed on the windscreen?
To ensure the tag is visible for inspection without obstructing the driver’s view, we recommend placing the RFID tag on the upper-left or lower-left corner of the windscreen (on the driver’s side). This position also ensures optimal readability by RFID readers.
Can windshield RFID tags last for more than five years?
Absolutely. The lifespan of an RFID tag depends on its operating environment. Recognizing the harsh conditions vehicle RFID tags often face, we use high-durability, UV-resistant materials to ensure functionality and appearance over extended periods.
Our windshield tag substrates and inks undergo special treatments to resist UV radiation and temperature fluctuations, maintaining performance even in extreme outdoor conditions.
Tags designed for prolonged sun exposure feature weather-resistant materials, ensuring usability for over five years or longer. Additionally, we consider thermal expansion, sandstorms, and rain in our designs to maximize durability and ensure consistent performance throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle.
How can RFID tags be removed from the windshield?
A better question might be: why remove them at all? Most clients ask us to ensure that RFID tags cannot be easily removed. To meet this need, we use VOID tamper-evident materials, ensuring that any attempt to remove the tag leaves visible signs of tampering and renders the chip unusable.
However, if your project requires removable tags, we can adjust the adhesive to leave no residue when removed. Because most projects prioritize RFID tags that cannot be easily removed.
What chip options are available for RFID tags? What is the reading range?
Our RFID windshield tags primarily use NXP U9 series chips with UHF (Ultra High Frequency) technology. These chips offer long-distance reading and robust anti-interference capabilities, ideal for windshield applications. The reading range typically extends from 10 to 12 meters or more, depending on factors like environment and antenna configuration. Of course, we can also customize the chip according to your requirements.

Can RFID windshield tags be made tamper-proof?
Yes, RFID windshield tags can be designed with tamper-proof features, such as VOID materials. These materials leave clear evidence of tampering, and the chip is tamper-evident also, it will be damaged when removed, rendering it unusable. This ensures added security.
Can RFID tags be applied to metal surfaces, such as motorcycles?
Yes, RFID tags can be used on motorcycles or other metal surfaces. We offer special tags with metal-resistant shielding layers to ensure stable performance despite interference from metallic surfaces.
Can RFID windshield tags support post-processing for personalized information?
Yes, RFID tags can be personalized. The back of each windshield tag has a 60g glassine release paper, with die-cut areas reserved for printing serial numbers, QR codes, or other personalized information based on your needs.
