DOVID Hologram to Manufacture Polycarbonate ID Cards

Behind IMAGE TECH’s DOVID hologram stamping foil lies over 25 years of experience in the research and application of micro-nano optical technology.

Our company independently developed key production equipment, including advanced mastering origination systems and UV recombination machines.  We cover both hardware and software to ensure the reliable production of our products. At present, we hold 63 patents, including 18 invention patents and 10 software Copyrights. This lays a technical foundation for our advanced optical safety applications.

We follow authoritative systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and the International Optical Technology Association (IOTA). This ensures the stability of our product quality, the security of information, as well as the controllability and reliability of production.

We are responsible for the entire process from visual art design, optical engineering design, optical mold development, Register nano embossing, to Core Equipment R&D and manufacturing. IMAGE TECH is fully responsible for every link from design to mass production.

The ability to independently complete all processes enables us to produce efficiently and achieve large-scale delivery. These advantages enable us to provide reliable DOVID register hologram stamping foil services for polycarbonate identity document applications.

IMAGE DOVID Features to Protect Your PC ID Documents

DOVID, its full name is diffractive optically variable image device, is a kind of security features widely used in ID documents, especially for Polycarbonate substrates. The unique optical visual effects are presented by diffraction, reflection and so on. And this is the main difference compared with conventional security ink printing, DOVID doesn’t contain any inks, it’s absolutely a physical micro structure.

The Chinese characters for YIN XIANG have 3D colorful relief effects.

Color Relief & Lens

The Chinese character "YIN XIANG" has a 3D colorful relief effect. Present relief effect through grating control. Color lens adds a clear and sparkling effect, like pearls.

Neon Color, the foil shows stable red-green color change

Color Shift

Also known as Neon Color, commonly used for high-end ID documents. Stable color visible at reflection angle, color change occurs upon 90° horizontal rotation.

Diffractive Optical Change

Dot matrix dynamic graphics, you can see optical image show dynamic zoom in out effet. It has a strong visual impact, and prvoides visual security for PC identity documents.

DOVID Hologram Application

Using a hot-stamping device, the DOVID hologram from stamping foil will be stamped on a polycarbonate PC overlay for PC ID3 and ID1 Cards protection.

Common Questions About PC DOVID Stamping and Lamination

A DOVID reel used for polycarbonate is a multi-layer material, a PET substrate, a release layer, optical micron structures, vacuum metallization, hot melt adhesive, and so on.

The release layer is the key factor that affects the flake issue; a suitable release layer is important.

After stamping, the DOVID’s surface resistance is not a big issue for embedded type lamination. However, for top stamping like PVC card, need to consider it as the DOVID is on top of an ID card.

Adhesive bonding, during the DOVID stamped to PC process, needs to make sure the adhesive is fully melted, so it can bond well with the PC overlay.

Stamping tips, for metal (e.g., Bass ) stamping head, the temperature is around 130℃-135℃, for some silicon stamping heads, a high temperature is needed, like 160℃-180℃。

Lamination process, the polycarbonate lamination temperature is usually 180℃-200℃.  After lamination and punching, the ID documents will go through a laser printing process at the ID issuing station.

One of the headaches is printing area may bulge, especially in the portrait area, because that area receives more laser printing and absorbs higher energy; the main reason is the bonding strength.

To solve this issue, need to analyze and optimize the whole process from PC material selection, top overlay gloss/matt selection, DOVID compatibility, lamination, and laser printing process.
